Paige Meyer recently completed an internship with the Upper Minnesota Valley Regional Development Commission. Here is what they had to say about the experience.
Another year at the UMVRDC has brought me more invaluable experience. Practicing and participating in a professional day-to-day environment has helped me better prepare for my future career, as well as make strong connections with community leaders.
This year, I took on similar responsibilities as in the past, along with some new ones through the Meander Art Crawl. Having responsibilities that I was already familiar with and understood the expectations of helped me ease back into the working mindset. The new project gave me a challenge that I had to figure out how best to approach and carry out. I had to learn how to schedule and conduct interviews with artists, transcribe the recordings, and take photos. It was fun learning about the people in my community and showcasing their work through the Meander.
These responsibilities helped give me confidence in the work setting and in myself as an emerging professional. The LINK meetings are also always great because I get to see what other students my age are working on and doing for their communities. I am grateful that I have been able to look forward to this internship each summer. Every summer has been fulfilling and exciting, slowly preparing me for work after I graduate.
